sand, lava, pumice stone and ash-
Welcome to the Scirocco Villas in Santorini
For individual tourists who love nature
The Scirocco Villas are located on the east coast with Aegean sea sunrise view, in approx. 200 m distance you will find a secluded unspoiled beach (Kanakari Beach).
The unique landscape surrounded by fields and chalk cliffs (Aspra Chomata), and the unspoiled volcanic coast line make Scirocco Villas’ location attractive.
A hide-away from usual tourist orientated holiday resorts, though it is only an approx. 8 minutes drive from Fira city center.
The complex consists of 7 units with sea view, decorated in a traditional, clear and simple Cycladic island style.
Just below the complex, in approx. 200 m distance, an untapped beach awaits you (since it is an volcanic island, stones are black). It is not prepared for tourists, so there is no hustle and bustle, and you can just listen to the waves and concentrate on the horizon. A few caves along the coast line which are built inside the sand, lava, pumice stone and ash layers of the volcanic earth create a special atmosphere, as well as the Kanakari ruin (better not to be entered), an old tomatoe fabric built in approx. 1950 with stones found by the sea, down by the Kanakari beach.
An approx. 10 minutes walk along the coast line to the south takes you to a small beach (Exo Gialos Firon) prepared for tourists, and located right next to it is a small marina (where a few locals dock their fishing boats and yachts). It provides a cave tavern called ‘Yalos Gastronomy by the Sea’ which offers excellent food, sun loungers, local wine and beer, and selected music makes chilling perfect.
A approx. 10 minutes walk along the coast line to the north takes you to a small beach (Vourvoulos) prepared for tourists, combined with a small marina for locals, with a traditional tavern and sun beds.
All mentioned beaches are not connected to the public bus network yet, so they are still a tip for individualists.
Only a couple of swans seem to have a regular time table swimming back and forth between Vourvoulos beach and Exo Gialos Firon beaches. The owners will be helpful in renting a car.
In this quiet, secluded unique landscape you can easily relax. In spring, you will find some mediterranean flowers and herbs, even in the beginning of summer when it gets really dry, thyme and various species of cactus try to give at least some color. Grapes use to grow low on the ground, it’s harvested is in August, fig trees sprout in February / March and are usually ripe end of July / beginning of August, and small Santorinian tomatoes are usually ready to be picked in June / July.
